Ji Wenyu (b. 1959, Shanghai) is a well-known chinese artist, he have had exhibitions around the globe. His recent Shanghai exhibition (Nov‘23) curated by Miwa Kutsuna was well celebrated by the art world.
Ji Wenyu is known for his propaganda-esque style. His works paint a universe full of surprises and references to both political occurrences and cultural productions.
Stepping away from his usual stye, “The Temptation of Cards” is a rare piece from his collection. I love this intricate Chinese painting depiction of temptation co-existing with beauty, power and existentialism. This was created during uncertainty times of the pandemic.
