Jiang Defang (Chinese, b. 1963) is a contemporary Chinese painter known for his richly expressive works inspired by Yunnan’s ethnic cultures and visual traditions. He studied at the Painters Painting and Calligraphy Institute in Kunming and is a member of the Yunnan Province Artists Association, the Kunming City Artists Association, and the Yunnan Colour Painting Art Committee. Jiang’s style blends classic and modern elements as well as abstract and representational forms, creating a fusion that reflects both Eastern and Western artistic influences.

He has exhibited widely throughout China and internationally, including shows in the United States such as the “Yunnan Art” exhibition at the South China Sea, California Art Gallery, and participation in the 1992 New York Art Fair and 1993 Rong Bao Zhai exhibition in Mountain View, California. Jiang draws basic inspiration from the diverse ethnic cultures of Yunnan, using colour, form and cultural motifs to evoke place, tradition and contemporary visual expression.
