Jimmy Chishi (Indian, b. 1977) studied at St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, before earning his MA in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and later completing an M.Phil. in Visual Arts at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has worked as an art consultant and researcher, and has taught puppetry and engaged in research on traditional arts and folk painting traditions, especially those of the Naga community. Over the years he has exhibited paintings, sculptures, and puppetry works across Delhi, Jaipur, Singapore, and other cities.

Chishi’s practice draws heavily from folklore, traditional symbolism and personal memory. In works such as the “Gethsemane” series he explores themes of sacrifice and spiritual symbolism, while in the “Kikimiyeh – LOVE” series he reflects on love, memory, and cultural heritage using imagery rooted in Naga tradition. His art is characterised by a blending of symbolic motifs, memory, and cultural references that aim to speak a universal language beyond specific contexts.
