Jordy Kerwick (Australian, b.1982) is a self-taught contemporary artist born in Melbourne, Australia, and based in Albi, France. He began painting in 2016 and is known for his vibrant, expressionistic compositions, which bring together domestic objects, wild animals and mythical creatures. Working with oil, acrylic and spray paint on canvas, as well as oil stick and collage on paper, Kerwick embraces an intuitive approach that allows spontaneity, texture and unexpected combinations of colour to shape his works.
Kerwick’s paintings draw on art-historical references, ancient iconography and popular culture, combining Egyptian symbols with the bold colours and graphic outlines associated with comic books. His recurring imagery, including predatory animals, mythical beasts and patterned objects, creates a contemporary form of folklore that balances playfulness with mystery. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Australia, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, with works held in collections such as the Yusaku Maezawa Collection, the Masahiro Maki Collection and the Beth DeWoody Bunker Artspace Foundation.
