Jun’ichi Dobashi (Japan, 1910-1978) began his studies in Tokyo and first traveled to Paris in 1938, a trip that sparked a lasting connection with the city. This bond eventually led him to settle in Paris from 1953 to 1969.
As a former member of the influential Shinjuki group in Japan, Dobashi had his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1954, and became a regular exhibitor at Galerie Fricker. His work was also shown at the leading avant-garde salons such as the Salons d'Automne, Salon de Mai and Salon des Comparaisons. In 1958, he was invited to participate at the prestigious École de Paris exhibition at Galerie Charpentier, gaining critical acclaim for his contributions at the avant-garde show Luminosite.
Dobashi built a strong international reputation, with his work featured in numerous group exhibitions across Europe and the United States. His work has also been exhibited in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Provenance includes Umigaro Gallery in Japan, Kato Art Duo Gallery in Singapore, and private collections in Asia.
