Kanae Toyama (Japanese, b. 1958) was born in Hokkaido and graduated from Tama Art University Graduate School of Art in 1983. After studying the Support/Surface movement of southern Europe in the 90s Kanae developed her own unique style of painting which effuses bright colors on plain canvas and which built up layers of small strokes in bands of transparent bright light creating a sense of lightness and floating.
