    La Hon (Vietnamese, 1945-2023)
pursued formal art training at the Gia Định School of Art Decoration in Saigon, graduating in 1963. From the early stages of his career, he was actively involved in Vietnam’s post-war art scene and later became a member of both the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association. Over several decades, La Hon participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and received recognition and awards from major art events during the 1960s, establishing his reputation among his contemporaries.

La Hon is best known for a distinctive expressive style that balances strong structural composition with emotional depth. His works often explore human figures, daily life, and inner states of feeling, conveyed through bold forms, textured surfaces, and a restrained yet sensitive use of colour. Rather than focusing on strict realism, his paintings favour mood, movement, and psychological presence, giving his subjects a sense of quiet intensity. Throughout his long career, La Hon remained committed to personal expression while staying rooted in the social and cultural realities of Vietnam. His works are now held in private collections both locally and internationally, reflecting his enduring presence within Vietnamese modern art history.
