Laksmi Shitaresmi (Indonesian, b.1974) completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 1998 and has been actively exhibiting since her early youth. Over a career spanning nearly three decades she has taken part in more than two hundred group exhibitions and ten solo shows in Indonesia and internationally. She has been nominated for awards such as The Sovereign Asian Art Prize and has received national recognition, establishing her as a significant presence in contemporary Indonesian art.
Shitaresmi works across painting, sculpture and installation, often blending figurative forms with symbolic and expressive elements. Her art reflects personal experience, cultural reflection and social commentary, exploring themes of identity, memory and the human condition through a variety of materials and visual strategies. In recent years she has also addressed environmental and social issues in her work, transforming found materials into artistic compositions that invite viewers to engage with both intimate and collective narratives.
