Laurence Jenkell (French, b. 1965) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Cannes, where she painted composites, landscapes, and portraits. After her academic years, she became largely inspired by fashion and industrial design, integrating contemporary consumerism and industrial imagery into her work. She later tapped into her fascination with sweets and found her signature: sculptures resembling giant confectionery, which quickly captured public attention.
Alongside experimenting with materials like resin, bronze, and stainless steel to give her works a striking visual presence, Jenkell also incorporates elements of popular culture. She engages the viewer by provoking reflection on themes such as consumerism, identity, and modern society.
Her work radiates purity and positivity, reminding viewers of their childhood. This never-ending power of imagination leads them down a path of happiness and joy, evoking memories of their favourite candy experiences. Her reputation is international, with exhibitions in galleries worldwide and sculptures installed in public spaces across numerous cities.
