Lin Bao Ling 林葆靈 (Taiwanese, b.1981) obtained his BA in Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore before completing an MA and pursuing a PhD at the National Normal University in Taiwan.
Teachers, peers and collectors noticed Lin’s virtuosity in painting even before he graduated with his first degree. His sensitive ability to portray the frenzied night lights of the city in a dreamy and calm semi-abstract way, has won him many fans and several awards. He has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
This painting of commuters on a drizzly night in Shibuya was part of Lin’s 2005 Nocturne Series. It is a rare piece in Lin’s oeuvre as his early night scenes do not usually depict people. His genius is evident in how he can capture or suggest so many details and such atmospheric energy within a small frame.
