Mandana Moghaddam (Iranian, b. 1962) is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, and video. Born in Tehran and later based in Sweden after leaving Iran following the 1979 Revolution, her work is deeply shaped by experiences of displacement, exile, and cultural transition. Her practice often draws on personal and collective memory, particularly in relation to migration, borders, and fragmented identity.
Moghaddam is widely known for her long-running Chelgi series, which uses the traditional Iranian women’s head covering as a sculptural and symbolic form to address women’s rights, silence, and resistance. Her work frequently confronts political and social oppression while maintaining a poetic and restrained visual language. She has exhibited extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and her practice is recognised for its powerful engagement with themes of freedom, loss, belonging, and human resilience.
Acquired from Aaran Art Gallery, Tehran, Iran.
