Mozhdeh Sajadi (Iranian, b. unknown) captivates with her distinctive storytelling approach. I acquired this work during her solo exhibition, In Our Jungle, at Shirin Gallery, Tehran, in the summer of 2018.
Her paintings unfold like visual narratives, formatted in grid-like compositions reminiscent of comic book storytelling. This structured arrangement invites the viewer to engage with each scene sequentially, creating a sense of unfolding drama. The additional gauze-like layer overlaying the work enhances this effect, mimicking the view through a veil or tent, subtly suggesting themes of observation, concealment, and the interplay between seen and unseen realities.
