This artwork was purchased when we visited Hanoi, which we found to be charming and dynamic all at once. The old quarter was angular with balconies/ windows and old world architecture. The streets were bustling with traffic and people, going about their daily lives. We found this cityscape evocative of our experience of Hanoi as it seemed to capture the denseness of the old quarter and that moment in the day where bright daylight dissolves into evening. We also liked the duality in this painting of an old city, rooted in place and yet with an abstract modern face.
