Nick Grindrod (British, b.1974) is a contemporary abstract painter known for vibrant geometric compositions that combine bold colour fields with expressive mark-making and distressed surfaces. Working intuitively, he builds and removes layers of paint throughout the creative process, creating works that balance structure and spontaneity while exploring relationships between colour, form, texture, and space. His paintings are often energetic and playful, yet reveal a careful attention to composition and materiality.
Based in Sheffield, Grindrod studied Fine Art at the University of Derby and has developed a distinctive visual language influenced by architecture, urban environments, and the industrial character of his hometown. Through the layering, abrasion, and reworking of painted surfaces, he creates compositions that evoke a sense of history and transformation while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary abstraction. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous private collections.
