Nyoman Gunarsa (Indonesian, 1944–2017) was a celebrated Balinese painter and curator known for his dynamic depictions of Balinese dance, ritual, and everyday life. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, he co-founded Sanggar Dewata Indonesia, a collective that promoted Balinese identity in modern art. His expressive brushwork and vibrant colours captured movement and spirituality, blending tradition with contemporary expression. Gunarsa also founded the Museum Seni Lukis Klasik in Klungkung, Bali, to preserve classical Balinese painting, leaving a lasting legacy as both artist and cultural advocate.
