Om Mee Ai (Korean, b. 1959) was born in Korea and later pursued her art education in Singapore and Australia. She earned a Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) with Distinction from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore in 2002, a BFA with High Distinction from RMIT University in Melbourne in 2003, and a MFA in Painting from the Open University UK in 2006.

Om’s abstract painting practice is defined by meticulous geometric constructions created through repetitive taping, layering, wiping and glazing, often building up 20-30 translucent paint layers to produce shimmering grid-like surfaces. She has been recognized multiple times in Singapore’s prestigious UOB Painting of the Year competition, winning the Abstract category in 2003, 2006, 2007 and taking the top Established Artist award for Singapore in 2014 with N-PIN56L, a contemplative “starry night sky” oil painting.
