Prabhakara Jimmy Quek (Singaporean, b. 1955) is a painter and printmaker whose art is often based on Buddhist philosophy and an appreciation for nature’s transience. Having studied at the Baharuddin Vocational Institute and later trained in fine arts and design, Quek has spent decades exploring ideas of impermanence and continuity through his works. His artistic journey reflects a balance between traditional Asian aesthetics and contemporary experimentation, often drawing from his spiritual practice as a Buddhist.
His works combine Eastern brushwork techniques and meditative compositions with Western abstract sensibilities, creating a visual language that is both contemplative and dynamic. Over the years, Quek has exhibited extensively across Singapore and internationally, with his pieces held in both private and public collections. Beyond his painting, he is also known for his contributions to arts education and for fostering mindfulness in creative expression, bridging spirituality with modern art practice.
Acquired from ArtForum in the 1988.
