Sam Cheng (Hong Kong, b.1989) is a contemporary ink painter whose practice centres on still life and landscape, using everyday subjects to express personal emotions and quiet moments of reflection. A First Class Honours graduate in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, she combines the precision of traditional gongbi (fine-brush) painting with contemporary compositions, creating delicate works characterised by refined linework, subtle ink washes, and gentle pastel tones.
For Cheng, painting is a meditative process through which observation and emotion converge. Her works balance technical discipline with lyrical sensitivity, transforming familiar objects and natural scenery into contemplative images that evoke memory, stillness, and introspection. A recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Creative Award and the Ting Yen Yung Creative Award, she has exhibited extensively in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with works held in institutional and private collections.
