Shi Zhonggui 史忠贵 (Chinese, b. 1954) is a Chinese painter, philosopher and poet from Chengdu in Sichuan Province. He began his professional artistic career at the age of 16 and later studied traditional Chinese painting at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, where he also developed his interest in poetry alongside painting. His work in ink and colour on rice paper evokes the vast landscapes of Western China, combining a sense of freedom and tranquillity with expressive brushwork.
Shi’s paintings have been exhibited widely in Asia and Europe, including major shows in Paris and Geneva, where his work has been well received internationally. In recognition of his artistic contributions, he was appointed a professor at the College of Arts at Sichuan University and became a member of the Académie des Arts-Sciences-Lettres in France, receiving the prestigious Grande Médaille de Vermeil, a rare honour for a Chinese artist. His practice continues to explore the essence of landscape and form through a poetic and philosophical lens.
