Sohan Qadri (Indian, 1932–2011) was an Indian painter, poet and yogi known for his deeply spiritual and meditative approach to art. Born in Punjab, India, he was influenced from a young age by both Hindu and Sufi teachings, which shaped his lifelong interest in meditation and mysticism. He studied art in India before travelling internationally, eventually settling in Copenhagen, where he lived and worked for several decades.

Qadri’s works are characterised by vibrant, dye-infused colours on paper, often punctured or incised to create textured, almost sculptural surfaces. Moving away from figuration, he developed an abstract visual language rooted in Tantric philosophy, focusing on colour, form and the idea of spiritual transcendence. His works have been exhibited widely across Europe, Asia and North America, and remain recognised for their unique fusion of art and meditation.
