Steve Fullmer (American, b. 1946) moved to New Zealand in 1973. Apart from displaying a good sense of form, he also displays a good sense of humour. He is able to take mundane things and transform them into pieces that we could smile at. His unique glaze technique results in a time-weathered look which has a lasting appeal.
Asked to represent his adopted country at the 1992 World Expo in Spain, he is also a two-time consecutive winner of the prestigious Fletcher Challenge, something no one has ever accomplished before.
“Candy Hill is a given name to many hills in the U.S.A. that are special to that area. I liked the name and thought it was a suitable name; the hole at the top act as a time capsule for the owner.”
Acquired from Sculpture D’Art Gallery in 1994.
