Steve Fullmer (American, b. 1946) moved to New Zealand in 1973. Apart from displaying a good sense of form, he also displays a good sense of humour. He is able to take mundane things and transform them into pieces that we could smile at. His unique glaze technique results in a time-weathered look which has a lasting appeal.
Asked to represent his adopted country at the 1992 World Expo in Spain, he is also a two-time consecutive winner of the prestigious Fletcher Challenge, something no one has ever accomplished before.
“Memory of a child is much to do with fading memories of our childhood - parts we can remember easily, but so much of it is gone, maybe in sleep we can go deeper, but when one opens their eyes, it too soon fades.”
Acquired from Sculpture D’Art Gallery in 1994.
