Tatsuo Takayama (Japanese, 1912-2007), a painter known for the Japanese-style painting, Nihonga, is the recipient of the 1982 Order of Cultural Merit Award. Influenced by Paul Gaugain's style, Takaya's art incorporates vivid fauvist expressions and spiritual colours of symbolisation. Active chiefly in the Salon of Japan, and a 70-year illustrious career, Takayama's art is sought by collectors, private institutions and museums.
