Tay Boon Pin (Singaporean, b. 1936) is an artist best known for his contributions to Singapore’s social realist movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Bagansiapi-Api, Sumatra, he moved to Malacca and later Singapore, where he studied at Chung Cheng High School before graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1956. An early member of the Equator Art Society, his paintings often focus on maritime life, workers, and everyday urban scenes such as the Singapore River, reflecting both his personal experiences and social concerns of the time. His body of work spans portraits, still lifes, and figure studies, many of which are now held in national collections.
