Teng Nee Cheong (Singaporean, 1951–2013) was an acclaimed artist known for his richly coloured oil paintings and expressive charcoal drawings, which reflect the diverse cultural influences and traditions of Asia.

A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and recipient of the Ministry of Culture Special Award in 1978, Teng developed a distinctive visual language, characterised by vibrant hues and Southeast Asian cultural motifs. His work draws on spiritual iconography from Buddhism, Hinduism, and Balinese mythology, weaving these elements into intricate, symbol-laden compositions.

To some extent, the work echoes the teachings and style of Singaporean master Georgette Chen (1906–1993), who mentored Teng during his formative years at NAFA. Yet, his masterful use of luminous colour and spiritual symbolism sets his work apart, showcasing his unique artistic vision.

Acquired directly from the artist in 1976.
