    Tran Nguyen Dung (Vietnamese, b. 1942) is a painter residing in Hanoi, Vietnam, with a career spanning over five decades. He studied under prominent artists like Luong Xuan Nhi and Pham Viet Song before working for Hanoi’s Department of Culture and Information from 1959 to 1992. Since 1993, Dung has worked as a freelance artist, with his paintings collected internationally, including in the USA, France and Japan. His first ever solo exhibition was held in 1994 at Gallery No. 7 Hang Khay in Hanoi.

    Dung is known for his impressionistic style, his work features natural themes like flowers, butterflies, and maidens, portraying peace and beauty in daily life. His large oil paintings, such as “Tet Flower Market” and “Peach Blossom Market,” incorporate intricate geometric patterns inspired by traditional Vietnamese decoration, putting his strong national identity on display.
