Truong Dinh Hao (Vietnamese, 1937–2022) was a prominent artist celebrated for his evocative depictions of rural Vietnamese life and folklore. Born in Hanoi, he studied at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and became known for his sensitivity to the rhythms of everyday life in the countryside. His works often featured villagers, buffaloes, and scenes painted with gentle tones and fluid brushstrokes, reflecting a deep nostalgia for Vietnam’s cultural roots and traditions.
Working primarily with watercolor and gouache on paper or newspaper, Truong’s art captured both the simplicity and resilience of rural existence. His pieces are characterized by their quality and subtle layering of colors that become timeless pieces of art. Throughout his career, he exhibited widely in Vietnam and abroad, including France and Singapore, and remains respected as one of Vietnam’s leading painters of the post-war generation who bridged realism and poetic abstraction.
Acquired from Art Trend Gallery in 1994.
