Ugo Untoro (Indonesian, b. 1970) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Yogyakarta. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), where he became known for his involvement in the alternative art scene and his interest in urban culture, punk, and street art.
Untoro’s practice includes painting, drawing, installation, poetry, and video. His work is expressive and layered, often combining loose brushwork, text, and scratched surfaces. He is known for capturing feelings of isolation, introspection, and the passage of time, while reflecting the raw edges of city life and personal memory.
Over the years, Untoro has developed a distinctive visual style that blurs the line between the poetic and the everyday. His works have been shown widely in Indonesia and abroad, and he remains a central figure in the development of contemporary art in Yogyakarta.
