Six young Chinese artists at the forefront of a new generation employ a wide range of media, materials and strategies in their investigation into the multiple meanings of the machine. As artificial constructs, machines both extend and restrict human perception and action. Together, the artists bridge the gap between the mental and physical world, extracting metaphors for modern city life through the machine object. The works explore the processes and effects of technology, globalisation, industrialisation, and the mechanisation of the artist’s body and labour.

    Exhibited:
Machine at Galerie Steph, an exhibition featuring young Chinese artists Li Shurui, Chen Jie, Zhou Siwei, Wan Yang, Zeng Hong and Tao Hui.
