Weixin Quek Chong (Singaporean, b. 1988) is a contemporary artist whose practice spans printmaking, installation and research-based work. She studied at LASALLE College of the Arts and later completed her MA in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London. Working nomadically between Singapore and Europe, her practice explores sensorial experience, material transformation and the shifting boundaries between bodies, environments and systems.
Her work often examines constructed binaries and the ways in which forms—both organic and artificial—mutate, adapt and evolve over time. Drawing from historical references, scientific imagery and material processes, she creates tactile, layered works that question how meaning is assigned and how knowledge is produced. Through this approach, Chong builds a visual language that is both analytical and intuitive, engaging with themes of perception, identity and transformation.
In this series, Chong uses traditional printmaking techniques such as copperplate etching and lithography to “document” plants, referencing how 18th-century explorers used similar methods to categorise and possess nature. The works adopt the visual language of botanical specimens, yet their deep blacks and intricate linework push the forms into something slightly unfamiliar, where organic subjects appear both precise and subtly alien.
