Willem Hoeffnagel (Dutch, b.1995) is a contemporary painter from Arnhem, the Netherlands. Interested in drawing and painting from an early age, he initially studied entrepreneurship in Amsterdam before pursuing illustration design at ArtEZ Zwolle. Although he eventually left the programme, the experience allowed him to experiment with different techniques and develop his own visual style before turning to painting full-time.
Hoeffnagel is known for his recurring stylised figures, which have featured in his work for more than a decade. Rather than representing specific individuals, these figures act as placeholders through which he explores scenes, narratives and everyday moments. His practice sits within contemporary figurative painting, incorporating influences from illustration, comics and cartoon imagery.
