Wire Tuazon (Filipino, b. 1973) graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1999. He is one of the founding members of Surrounded By Water, an influential artist-run space established in the late 1990s that supported experimental practices in the Philippines. In 2003 he received the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, recognising his contribution to contemporary art in the country.
Tuazon’s work combines hyperrealist painting, semiotics, and performative gestures. His imagery often draws from mass media, pop culture, historical material, and personal memory, and he frequently uses text and symbolic motifs to question meaning and representation. Through layered narratives and large-scale canvases, his paintings explore memory, identity, and the tension between reality and constructed histories, encouraging viewers to reconsider how images shape understanding.
Acquired from Borobudur Singapore in 2008.
