Yang Bo-Yao (Taiwanese, b. 1981) holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts Education from the National Hsinchu University of Education and a Master's in Creative Arts from the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts Education.
Yang’s work is defined by its meticulous detail and symbolic structure. By transforming himself into an object—often represented through LEGO figurines—he removes the personal to explore identity from a distanced, almost clinical perspective. This self-effacing approach enables a deeper inquiry into his relationship with the social world, positioning his body and identity as both subject and spectacle.
His role-playing compositions are surreal, absurd, and often laced with humour. Through these theatrical scenes, Yang invites viewers to confront the dissonance between the familiar and the illogical. His images provoke reflection on how everyday behaviour is shaped by cultural norms, encouraging audiences to question their roles within the structures of society.
