Yang Zhongda (Singaporean, b.1988) is a contemporary painter whose practice explores stillness, memory, and the quiet rhythms of everyday life through restrained abstract compositions. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), he is known for creating meditative works characterised by subtle tonal variations, layered surfaces, and delicate gestural marks. His paintings often balance spontaneity with careful control, inviting contemplation through simplicity and the expressive potential of texture and space.
Working primarily in abstraction, Yang approaches painting as an intuitive and reflective process, gradually building compositions through successive layers of paint and nuanced mark-making. Rather than depicting recognisable subjects, his works evoke emotional states and moments of quiet introspection, encouraging viewers to slow down and engage with the subtle shifts in light, material, and atmosphere. His work has been exhibited in Singapore, including his solo exhibition Quietude (2021) at iPreciation.
