Zhang Gui Ming (Chinese, 1939-2014) was a Chinese contemporary painter celebrated for his mastery of figurative realism infused with emotional depth and cultural symbolism. Educated in China’s fine art academies during the post–Cultural Revolution period, Zhang developed a disciplined approach rooted in classical Chinese painting techniques while integrating Western realism. His subjects often centred on everyday life and historical memory, rendered with meticulous detail and soft tonal transitions.

Zhang’s works captured the dignity and resilience of ordinary people, combining technical precision with poetic atmosphere. His brushwork reflected the influence of both social realism and lyrical expressionism, offering reflections on the human condition in the ever-changing environment of China. Exhibited widely in national art salons and international showcases, Zhang Gui Ming remains part of the generation that redefined modern Chinese painting through craftsmanship and heartfelt realism.
