Dr. Earl Lu

Dr. Earl Lu Ming Teh 卢明德 (1925–2005) was a Singaporean painter, art patron and philanthropist. A medical surgeon by profession, he was also a keen art collector. He served on several institutional boards, helping to promote visual arts and art education in Singapore. His family’s collections of Chinese porcelain and brush paintings inspired him to study painting under Chen Wen Hsi, a first-generation Nanyang painter.

Lu painted as a hobby and became known for his paintings of roses, which he often offered for sale at fundraising exhibitions. His artistic practice was one part of a broader commitment to the arts. Through his collecting, institutional service and support for art education, he contributed to Singapore’s visual arts community and was regarded as one of the country’s prominent art patrons.
