Dr Earl Lu Ming Teh 卢明德 (Singaporean, 1925-2005), was considered one of Singapore’s most prominent art patrons and philanthropists. A medical surgeon by profession, Lu was a keen art collector and served on several institutional boards to help promote visual arts and art education in Singapore.
Lu was also a hobbyist painter known for his paintings of roses which he often presented for sale at fundraising exhibitions. His family were collectors and Chinese porcelain and brush paintings, which inspired him to begin studying painting under the tutelage of first generation Nanyang painter, Chen Wen Hsi (Singaporean, 1906-1991).
