Hong Zhu An

Hong Zhu An (b. 1955) is a Chinese-born, Singapore-based artist known for paintings that bring traditional Chinese art into dialogue with Western approaches. Trained in both Eastern and Western techniques, he draws on classical ink traditions alongside contemporary painting methods. His work often explores natural themes and lyrical landscapes, with close attention to composition, colour and atmosphere.

Across a career spanning several decades, Hong has developed a practice centred on calmness, harmony and poetic reflection. His paintings evoke quiet environments and contemplative moods through sensitive brushwork and spatial rhythm. Rather than setting traditions apart, he brings their different methods and visual sensibilities together in compositions that feel both rooted and contemporary.
