Jumaldi Alfi

Jumaldi Alfi (also named Alfi Jumaldi; b. 1973) is an Indonesian contemporary painter whose work combines expressive mark-making with layered imagery. He studied at the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) in Yogyakarta and became a founding member of the Jendela Art Group, a collective that helped shape contemporary Indonesian art in the late 1990s.

His paintings bring gestural marks, scribbles and symbolic imagery into landscapes and fragmented spaces. Combining abstraction with recognisable motifs, Alfi explores memory, history and cultural identity without imposing a fixed narrative. The layered surfaces of his work invite an emotional and instinctive response.

Alfi has exhibited in Indonesia and internationally, with work shown in museums, galleries and art fairs across Asia and Europe. He lives and works in Yogyakarta, where he remains active in the contemporary art scene.
