Quek Kiat Sing (Singaporean, b. 1976) juxtaposes modern-day subjects with traditional Chinese Ink to emphasise the relevance of Asian culture in contemporary life. She has received numerous awards and has a permanent site-specific commission Everyday Singapore 每日所见 at Shenton Way MRT Station featuring familiar scenes in the vicinity depicted in her signature contemporary ink style with a tinge of humour.

This artwork originated from her original series of scenes a la vie quotidienne. Engrossed in their own worlds on the way home from work and school, two strangers sit in close proximity headed in the same direction to their respective homes but far away in their own thoughts. It points to the paradoxical functional likeness  yet relational disconnect of modern day life and society.

This artwork is framed with custom-made dark brown wood and acrylic by Frameline.

    (Photographed in January 2025)
